Campaspe Weir back to former glory following completion of works

Friday 20 February, 2026

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) has reinstated water flow functionality from the Campaspe Weir between the townships of Rochester and Elmore following the completion of important works at the site.

The weir was damaged during the October 2022 flood event with staff access and flow regulating infrastructure impacted.

GMW recently completed works at the weir which resulted in damaged footwalks and guardrails being replaced with new ones.

The works also included the replacement of a damaged vertical lift door, and erosion protection upstream of the weir wall.

GMW Manager Diversions Groundwater and Streams Peter Clydesdale said the works had also reinstated remote operation of the site.

"That will help support the efficient delivery of irrigation and environmental deliveries downstream of the weir," he said.

GMW completed the works without any service interruptions, including allowing continued access to fishing spots near the weir.

Mr Clydesdale said GMW thanked customers for their cooperation throughout the period the door was not operational, and during the construction phase - acknowledging managing water deliveries to minimise interruptions was challenging.

"We sent a reminder message out to Campaspe diverters to place their orders at least four days in advance of the works," he said.

"This was to ensure releases from Lake Eppalock arrived at their extraction sites on the day they intended to pump.

"Our message was responded to well by irrigators and we thank them for their ongoing cooperation."
