Kerang stormwater improvements completed

Residents and property owners of land south of the Kerang central business district are benefiting from the installation of new stormwater infrastructure.

Work has occurred between late January and mid-March to complete two urban stormwater projects focusing on areas that are susceptible to flash flooding following significant, intensive rainfall and storm events.

Efforts occurred between late January and mid-February to install new stormwater pipes along the southern section of Franke Road and a vacant reserve opposite KerFab within the Tate Drive Industrial Estate.

Meanwhile, work occurred during late February and mid-March to install new stormwater pipes along Brolga Street, Kerang, providing an additional connection between the southern end of Marne Street and the town's stormwater network.

"Council is committed to working with our residents and businesses to improve our urban stormwater networks," Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

"These improvements are already benefiting residents in these areas, as we saw on 1-2 March when Kerang received more than 100 millimetres of rain in a 24-hour period. The amount of standing water in Franke Road was reduced compared to previous events. Works in Brolga Street and the southern end of Marne Street were not completed prior to this rain, however will provide benefits in future events.

"Council thanks residents, landowners and motorists for their understanding as these works were completed."
