Water Exchange Current Prices

Water allocation trading is currently active on Water Exchange Australia, one of the primary platforms used by irrigators in the Murray-Darling Basin to buy and sell water entitlements.

Current market prices are approximately $1,000 per megalitre for water allocations. The platform facilitates both temporary allocation trades and permanent water rights transactions, with pricing varying based on seasonal conditions, storage levels and demand across the basin.

Water trading is a key tool for Mallee farmers managing water supply across seasons, particularly during dry years when allocations may be reduced.
