The awarding of close to $50,000 of funding to 19 community projects as part of its 2026 Small Grants Program was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council's July 2026 meeting.
Held at The Glasshouse on Wednesday, 16 July, the meeting saw Council award $49,914.95 in funding to eligible projects and initiatives as part of the popular program.
Thirty-three community groups applied for funding from the program, with a total of $131,972 sought, with all applications assessed against the published Small Grants Program guidelines and a weighted assessment criteria matrix, which includes elements addressing access and inclusion, project delivery, community benefit, community involvement, innovation and lasting benefits.
Other outcomes of the meeting included:
Adoption of the following revised or new policies -
Financial Reserves, Fraud and Corruption Control, Rates Subsidy, Rating for Properties with Environmental Covenants,
and
Special Rates and Special Charges Scheme
.
Rescinding Council's
Compliance
policy, with a review finding that that there is no legislative requirement under the
Local Government Act 2020
or any other specific legislation for Council to maintain a standalone Compliance Policy.
Receiving and noting the summary of the Audit and Risk Committee held on 5 May 2026.
Adoption of the remuneration and travel reimbursement rates for Audit and Risk Committee independent members.
Approving a planning permit for a seven-lot subdivision at Teague Street, Koondrook.
Laying on the table a decision regarding a planning permit for the construction of two new lagoons within the existing Cohuna Water Reclamation Plant at Chugg's Road, Cohuna until the August 2026 Council meeting.
