Applications to join Gannawarra Shire Council's team of Outdoor Pool Lifeguards for the 2026/27 swimming pool season are now open.
The team will oversee operations at the Council-managed Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools for the 2026/27 season, which will run from Monday, 9 November to Monday, 8 March.
Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said the role of a summer lifeguard offered a rewarding opportunity for people looking for seasonal employment, a first job, or a chance to gain valuable skills and experience.
"Many of our previous lifeguards tell us the role helped them build confidence, develop strong communication and teamwork skills and gain qualifications that have supported them in future careers," Mr Rollinson said.
"Others have spoken about how much they enjoy being part of a team and helping create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who uses our pools.
"The message from our current and former lifeguards is simple: don't be afraid to give it a go. You'll receive extensive training and support, learn valuable skills on the job, and become part of a great team."
Applications are open to anyone aged 16 years and over, with Life Saving Victoria lifeguard training, first aid training and accreditation provided free of charge.
"Our flexible rosters mean you can fit work around your summer plans, with shifts available across weekdays, evenings and weekends," Mr Rollinson said.
"Having a team of lifeguards allows us to keep our pools operating throughout the season, providing important opportunities for recreation, fitness and social connection for thousands of residents and visitors.
"We are also encouraging people who may be available from January through to the end of the season to apply, helping us maintain staffing levels during the latter part of summer."
People wishing to be considered for employment at the start of the season are encouraged to submit their application by Monday, 24 August 2026.
