Residents are encouraged to have their say on the strategic document that outlines Gannawarra Shire Council's commitment to supporting children, young people and their families.
The draft
GROW Gannawarra Children and Youth Strategy 2026-2030
defines Council's role as a leader, facilitator, partner and advocate, working collaboratively to strengthen connections that support children, young people and their families to grow and succeed within their communities.
Developed via consultation with children, young people, community stakeholders, service providers and partner organisations, together with evidence from

, the draft strategy provides a coordinated framework to improve outcomes for young people aged 0-24 years across the municipality.
"Around one-quarter of Gannawarra residents are aged 0-24 years, and it is important that Council and other agencies unite to strengthen systems that support children, young people and their families," Mayor Garner Smith said.
"This new strategy builds on the work completed by Council and other agencies to implement Council's
Early Years Plan 2015-2018
and
Children and Youth Strategy 2016-2020
, and outlines how we can work collaboratively to help every child and young person in the Gannawarra to reach their full potential and thrive."
The draft
GROW Gannawarra Children and Youth Strategy 2026-2030
features 21 actions across six focus areas that address themes relating to feeling valued, loved and safe; material basics; physical and mental health; learning; participation; and identity and culture. These themes align with the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY), the Nest, Australia's first evidence-based framework to enhance wellbeing of children and young people.
