More than 200 people enjoyed an afternoon of music on Sunday, 23 August when the Victorian State Concert Orchestra performed at the Kerang Memorial Hall.
Gannawarra Shire Council was pleased to support this special event, which coincided with the orchestra's centenary season.
Led by conductor John Ferguson and featuring soprano Jane O'Toole, tenor Raymond Khong and concertmaster Loretta Frances Meagher, the two-hour program featured more than 20 musical selections spanning classical favourites, musical theatre and iconic movie themes.
"Council was honoured to welcome the Victorian State Concert Orchestra back to the Gannawarra, especially after their highly successful last visit to the municipality two years ago," Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
"Those in attendance enjoyed the various pieces performed, which ranged from works by Strauss, Schubert and Verdi to musical theatre classics and iconic movie themes.
"The performance was also the perfect lead-in to this week's Children's Book Week celebrations, which coincidentally is themed 'Symphony of Stories'. These celebrations will continue this week, culminating with book parades at Cohuna and Kerang."

A small team of student volunteers played an important role in the event, volunteering their time to assist with stage set-up and event preparations. This unique opportunity allowed local young people the chance to see the workings of a community event, and enabled them to watch sound check and warm-up, meet the musicians, learn about the instruments and what it is like to perform in a professional orchestra.
The student volunteers were supported by a team of community volunteers, who generously gave their time to assist throughout the day, whilst afternoon tea for the event was catered by the Kerang Girl Guides group.
"Council has received positive feedback from many of those who attended, as well as some great ideas regarding how we can make the orchestra's next performance even better," Mr Rollinson said.
"Council thanks the Victorian State Concert Orchestra for performing again in the Gannawarra, the volunteers who assisted and those that attended the event."
