Young residents capture life in Kerang through new book

Around 200 drawings by children from Kerang's five schools feature in a new book developed for this year's Children's Book Week.

The Gannawarra Library Service spent the past few months developing

In Kerang We Keep Busy

, which features drawings from students at Kerang Christian College, Kerang Primary School, Kerang Technical High School, Kerang South Primary School and St Joseph's Primary School identifying what they enjoy doing outside of school.

"Residents and those who regularly visit the area know there are plenty of things to do around the area, whether it is keeping active, catching up with friends or exploring their community," Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

"The book showcases the simple but meaningful activities that make growing up in Kerang and surrounding districts special.

"Through their drawings, students shared stories of fishing with family, riding bikes, playing sport, reading, baking, creating art, visiting the library and enjoying time outdoors, from local parks and sporting facilities to the banks of the local rivers.

"

captures what it means to be a child growing up in Kerang and surrounds, with the project tying in with the 2026 Children's Book Week theme of 'Symphony of Stories'."

Copies of

In Kerang We Keep Busy

have been presented to each participating school, with the book also available from Kerang's Sir John Gorton Library. A digital version of the book will soon be available to view on BorrowBox.

A selection of images featured in the book are currently on display in Kerang's Patchell Plaza and will remain on display until mid-November for the wider community to enjoy.

"Council thanks the Gannawarra Library Service for developing this initiative and our local schools for their enthusiastic participation," Mr Rollinson said.
