Council welcomes mobile phone reception upgrades

Gannawarra Shire Council has welcomed the recent completion of improvements to mobile phone reception in Koondrook.

Telstra upgraded its mobile base station in Koondrook throughout August, with the completed works enhancing 4G and 5G coverage across Koondrook-Barham, Gannawarra and Myall.

"Providing reliable mobile phone coverage is important for all residents, especially those living in rural areas," Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Geoff Rollinson said.

"Advocating for improved telecommunications infrastructure was one of the many priorities identified by residents during the development of the Koondrook Local Development Strategy, and these upgrades will deliver ongoing benefits for both residents and visitors."

The upgrade to Telstra's mobile base station follows similar works completed in Cohuna and Kerang over the past two years.

"We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you're in the city or the country," a Telstra spokesperson said.

"As data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G/5G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion for customers."
