I am pleased to share that we have intensified our advocacy efforts ahead of the State election, promoting a series of priority projects through social media, radio interviews and community engagement.
Council's election priorities focus on securing investment in key community infrastructure projects across the Shire, including the ANZAC Park Redevelopment in Warracknabeal, the Murtoa Community Hub and Sports Pavilion, redevelopment of the former Hopetoun School site, the Hopetoun Integrated Early Years Facility, the Beulah Supermarket project, housing-enabling infrastructure, and upgrades to roads and freight routes.
Council welcomed the Coalition's election commitment to provide $6 million to Yarriambiack Shire through the Country Roads and Bridges Program over four years ($1.5m per year), supporting the repair and maintenance of regional transport infrastructure. Council is encouraging the Labor Govenment to match or exceed this funding commitment.
As part of its broader advocacy campaign, Council is also supporting Rural Councils Victoria's election campaign, which calls for increased investment in rural communities and infrastructure.
Over the past month, I have attended a range of community events, including the Southern Mallee Co-operative Parish Art Exhibition in Hopetoun, the Wimmera Mallee Recreation Lakes Alliance meeting, the Dunmunkle Land Protection Group meeting in Murtoa, the Warracknabeal Community Garden Sculpture Unveiling and the Q&A Hay grand opening.
With warming weather arriving, Council looks forward to the many community events planned across the Shire in October and remains optimistic about the season ahead.
