Waranga Western Channel inspection leads to water for Greens Lake
Tuesday 10 June, 2025
The Waranga Western Channel will be lowered from 11 June to allow for an inspection of the major offtake structure, with water redirected to nearby Greens Lake.
Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) Manager Storage Operations South Paul Beard said the work was part of a maintenance schedule that requires a comprehensive inspection of the channel's major offtake structure every ten years.
"In order to undertake the inspection, we need to lower the Waranga Western Channel water level," Mr Beard said.
"This means about 300 megalitres of water will be redirected to Greens Lake, so the community may see a small increase in storage levels there.
"Greens Lake isn't part of GMW's irrigation delivery network and has a natural watering regime, but when operational purposes allow we can deliver water to Greens Lake and give that benefit to the community and the environment."
