Have your say on the future of Loch Garry's flood infrastructure

Friday 15 August, 2025

Two online sessions will be held later this month to provide interested community members with the opportunity to consider future management options for the Loch Garry flood regulator near Bunbartha.

These sessions follow four in-person sessions held late last month.

The current infrastructure provides protection to Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) customers in the Loch Garry Flood Protection District during minor and moderate floods.

The regulator has served the district for over a century but is nearing the end of its expected lifespan within the next 20 years.

GMW General Manager Strategy and Services Planning Steven Abbott said given the regulator's age, the growing risks of more frequent and intense floods, and substantial costs associated with a complete upgrade, it was timely to consider its future.

"Since late 2023, GMW has been working with a Community Reference Group to develop future service options for Loch Garry," Mr Abbott said.

"Extensive flood modelling has been undertaken to understand the impacts of changing the service, regulator, and landscape - especially how water would spread under different scenarios during minor and moderate floods."

GMW will host two online sessions where attendees can learn about the options and provide feedback:

Friday 12 September, 1pm to 2pm

Monday 15 September, 1pm to 2pm

Register for the sessions, learn more about the options and complete the survey:
