Blue-green algae warnings removed for Cairn Curran Reservoir, Tullaroop Reservoir and Hepburns Lagoon

Thursday 4 September, 2025

Goulburn-Murray Water has removed blue-green algae warnings at Cairn Curran Reservoir, Tullaroop Reservoir and Hepburns Lagoon following a significant decline in algae levels.

The warning for Cairn Curran Reservoir was issued on February 14 and remained in place for 202 days.

For Tullaroop Reservoir the warning was issued on February 27 and remained in place for 189 days.

For Hepburns Lagoon the warning was issued on January 9 and remained in place for 238 days.

GMW Water Quality coordinator Bianca Atley said GMW would keep testing for further changes to blue-green algae levels at its storages.

"We will continue undertaking water quality monitoring and if blue green algae reach levels deemed unsafe by national health guidelines, a warning will be issued," she said.

Ms Atley said the removal of the warnings was a welcome boost ahead of the upcoming school holiday period."

Our storages are a great place to visit and being able to remove these warnings means people can enjoy them to their full extent," she said.

Blue-green algae warnings remain in place for Lake Eppalock and Lake Boga.
